Codornices Park — Berkeley

Giant cement slide down a hill? Miles of trails? A creek? Underground tunnel? What more could you ask for?

The big draw to this park is the giant hillside cement slide! In addition to the giant cement slide (steep sometimes uneven steps to reach the top), there are two play areas, a grassy area, a basketball court, baseball field, hiking trails, a creek, small and group picnic areas with barbecue (one even has a brick fireplace), and a fun tunnel giving echo filled access across the street to the Berkeley Rosse Garden.

The larger play area is right next to the cement slide and is broken up into three structures. It has two slides (a wide and a straight- this one is only accessible by ladder), monkey bars, zip line, steps, activities, firefighter sliding pole, and a swing set with standard swings only.

The smaller play area is fully gated and includes a sandbox, a small structure with steps, activities and a double slide, a swing set with bucket-only swings, and a wooden trolley perfect for pretend play.

After playing we explored the hills behind the play structures. There were lots of little trails (sometimes very narrow and definitely not stroller friendly). The creek was just a trickle, but I’ve been told it can get very full.

After exploring the hills, we crossed the street via the underground tunnel to check out the Berkeley Rose Garden. It was a very fun-filled morning!

Street parking (2 hr limit). Open Bathrooms

This park can be pretty busy, especially some weekdays in summer as it is the host of a preteen summer camp.
