Frog Park - Oakland
A wooden playground castle! a dog park! a giant merry-go-round climbing net! Frog Park is the place to be.
A wooden playground castle! a dog park! a giant merry-go-round climbing net!
The park has two play areas. One much more old fashion made of wood and another that's newer. The newer one has a three-person teeter-totter, a climbing net that doubles as a merry go round, educational activities, swings (bucket, standard, and tire) but they are all separated and if you have different sized kids you'll have to go back and forth from one to the other to push.
Through the redwood grove is the big draw to this park... the wooden giant maze of a playground. It's very large and it’s nearly impossible to keep a constant eye on one kid (let alone two!). Younger kids may get overwhelmed but older kids will have so much fun finding all the paths and lookouts. There are three slides (one wide straight, one bumpy straight and one tube spiral). The tunnels, doorways, and paths can be very tiny at points so if parents/guardians want to go into the structure, watch your head! In the back, there are monkey bars and a climbing net. To the side is a sandbox with a mosaic turtle.
The great part about this "impossible to view your kids" park is there’s just one way in/out of the fenced area (be careful as there aren’t enough wood chips and you’ll slip down the rubber flooring as it’s about half a foot difference). If you can't see them, at least you'll know they're still in there if you stand at the gate! Outside of the fenced area, you’ll find tables that look like lily pads and if you walk a bit you’ll find some nice shade and benches.
Under the freeway is a dog park and basketball area. There’s a small patch of grass and a tiny bathroom that we didn’t check out.
Street parking only and not the most ideal situation. It's a short residential street (Hardy St) with very little parking availability OR you can park on Clifton and walk down the path across from the DMV.
