Hayward Regional Shoreline (Winton Ave) - Hayward
A quick walk to the shore for sea glass spotting, bird watching, bay views, and more at Hayward Shoreline!
Nicknamed glass beach, this spot is a perfect adventure out to the shoreline with a fun exploring time at the end. Park near the gate opening photoed and walk on the asphalt path (about a half-mile) until the fork in the road. Go to the right (on the dirt path) just a little ways until the rocks and cut down to the shore (it’s a bit steep but doable). When you get to the shore you’ll be at “glass beach”. Although it doesn't look like a typical glass beach (more of a collection of rounded glass once a part of the now capped landfill), but the kids really enjoy looking at the glass pieces. No collecting is allowed but for a bit of silence to enjoy the waves, it doesn't hurt to gather for a bit then replace when leaving.
Beyond the gate, entry is a parking lot with bathrooms and a more muddy (after rain) trail that is stroller manageable but not paved like the first gate opening mentioned before.
This is such a beautiful spot with opportunities to see all different birds types and wildlife. There are usually others enjoying the area including bikers and dog walkers. It’s in the landing path of Oakland and Hayward airport so you’ll get to see a variety of planes overhead. On a clear day, you’ll get beautiful views of the bay and the city. Keep looking north along the shore and you’ll be able to see the whales mural at the Hayward Shoreline (at the end of Grant).
