Birchfield Park — Hayward

Birchfield Park has lots of shade and lots of grass making it perfect for a park day!

Honestly, Birchfield Park is probably my favorite park. People always ask and this is the one my mind always goes to.

I love all the grass. I love all the trees. I love the fun ride-on toys. I love that it’s quiet. I love all the picnic spots and benches.

The park is a big one and has two big grassy areas on either end. There is a bunch of picnic tables and bbqs in the middle right next to the playground. Along the sidewalks, there are plenty of benches for taking a break or people-watching. Near the picnic tables there are a bunch of benches all facing towards the center... almost like this park used to host outside shows or something. (Do you know??) The playground has a large structure, swings (standard, bucket, and tire) plus ride-on toys. The structure has three slides (a spiral, a straight, and a double), a bridge, ladders, steps, gymnastic bars, a finger maze, and underneath imaginative play windows. The ride-on toys are fantastic- a double-kid T-Rex, a double-kid race car, and a single-kid frog.

The park also has a couple of horseshoe pits (they need attention) and a basketball court. There are open bathrooms and parking is on the street. I recommend parking in the neighborhood (on Willimet Way) vs on the busy street (Santa Clara St).
