littlejohn Park — Alameda

An all-abilities playground completely gated in with plenty to offer all types of kids plus grassy area, basketball court and ball field.

The completely gated play structure has four slides (spiral, double, a short sidewinder and a short straight slide), stairs, ladders, ramps, tunnels, climbing net, monkey bars, and a giant rocking “boat”. There are so many fun activities including music (some even electronic), math blocks, marble mazes, and a telescope. The playground also has a merry-go-round and swings. The swings are like nothing I’ve seen before! A bucket swing attached to a firm/flat standard style swing. These are fantastic for pushing two kids at the same time. There are also two seat swings without straps.

In addition to the playground, this park has a little free library, a baseball field, picnic areas, a basketball court (with net) and bathrooms plus a hopscotch game painted on the sidewalk. There is no parking lot, but street parking is plentiful.

I really liked the park. There was just one other family when we got there but about 10 when we left. A bit much for the size of this park, but I think they were all killing time before a preschool meet-up because all the kids knew each other. I have been told, however, that this park does get very busy on weekends and warm days. If it does feel too crowded, it is very close to another local hot spot park, Jean Sweeney Park
