May Nissen Park — Livermore

May Nissen Park has everything for a family fun day - a colorful playground, recreation fields, and picnic tables!

May Nissen Park had all the sports spots, including tennis, basketball, softball, swimming, horseshoe, large group picnic areas with bbq, a dog park, a preschool, a public library & the most colorful playground I’ve ever seen!

Under the canopies of gigantic flowers is an almost completely gated foam floored playground! There are 2 sides to this playground with a giant sandbox & sidewalk games in the back. One side is geared more towards smaller kids with bucket swings, a roller slide, tunnels, teeter-totters, rocking ride-on toys, spinning cups, an updated merry-go-round, plus a smaller structure. The structure is accessible but the elevated sidewalk through the middle or via steps, ladder, or climbing wall. There are 2 double slides plus activities mixed into this structure.

The other side is made more for bigger kids & has a 4 person teeter-totter, swings (standard & chair), a great hill for running up & sliding down (bring cardboard!) plus the play structure. This structure is also accessible via the elevated sidewalk & other steps, ladders, & climbing walls. It has one spiral slide & plenty of ramp space plus a rope railing board base bridge. Along the side of the fence is exercise equipment & a musical area (mallet instruments, drums, & a human-powered sound machine...it played actual recorded music ... cool, but do you really wanna hear Old McDonald had a Farm while at the park? probably not).

The color at this park is such a great feature. You can jump around on the big color mounds & hopped from circle to circle on the sidewalk games.

There is a parking lot right near the playground but it was full because they were doing COVID vaccines in the parking lot. I’m sure without vaccines the parking would be great.

TIP: If the lot is full when you go, circle around to the cul de sac on Bernal Ave. It ends right at the entrance to the playground (a tad close for a road & a playground opening but it is a cul de sac) On the other side of the parking lot is another small play area with climbing activities.

There are bathrooms!
