Martin Canyon Creek Trail — Dublin

You could walk Martin Canyon Creek, a Dublin city/EBRP trail & never know there were secret leprechaun doors out of sight!

Starting in Dublin at Silvergate Drie & Bay Laurel Street, enter the gate & enjoy the mostly shaded path. It stays pretty mild until you get closer to the EBRP gate & then the trail becomes very steep & narrow. Definitely more of a hike at this point

No, we didn’t do a costume change during this adventure. It took us 3 days to get it all in. The first day was exploring. We were hinted to the doors being here but we didn’t know where exactly. We only found one door with the help of another trail walker & were really shocked by the intensity of the trails in the EBRP property.

After some pointers, the second day was far more successful. Hint: they’re hidden mostly out of sight from the path, but not on trees that would put you in danger (not on a cliff edge or surrounded by poison oak). We walked until the second trail entry (still on Dublin city land) and turned back.

On the third day we started at the end of Dry Creek Dr and hiked until we reached Donlon Canyon Trail. The bulk of this trail is on EBRP land and is much more challenging than the first section. Brother (4) handled it fine but sister (2) was in a hiking backpack (gosh that was a workout). There is a gated entry into the EBRP land & on it there are warnings of coyotes and mountain lions (dogs must be on leash here) but we didn’t see any. At the top, there is a sudden scenery change and it becomes very wide open with cows grazing and rock formations. It took 40 mins to get to the top from this second entrance). Just before the opening, the trail turns through a bay tree grove where quite a few doors are hidden. In total, we found 13 doors.

From the trailhead on Bay Laurel St to Donlon Canyon Trail it is 1.9 miles (and of course you have to walk back).

Although tough in the second section, it’s definitely fun! (If you don’t do the whole thing the kids will never know).

Good luck!
