Halcyon Park— San Leandro
Halycon Park is a large gated park in a neighborhood off of E 14th in San Leandro
Want the park to yourself? Option 1) go before 9am Option 2) go in the rain
A few weeks ago when it was rain rain rain we couldn’t be inside anymore so we just did it. We went to the park in the rain!
This park has a nice sidewalk all the way around, picnic spots, bathrooms, a parking lot, a volleyball court (no net or posts), a huge grassy area, and two play areas. One of the play areas is completely gated in!! It has two slides (a straight and an sidewinder), stairs, ladders, a small climbing wall, and a hammock. There are two other small climbing structures that remind me of ships but really they’re more like tiny platforms with a wheel. In this gated area there is also two different teeter totters (2 person and 3 person), a spiny cup, bucket swings, and a finger skate park (remember tech decks??? brother used it for a hot wheel instead).
There is a second play area for older kids made up of the rope climbing structures we see everywhere (can you tell I’m not a fan? )
We’ve gone to this park well before kids to enjoy the grassy area for picnics or kite flying. Unfortunately, they have placed a bunch of big boulders and a huge tree in the center of the grass which takes away the chance for a soccer game. It’s right near bart tracks so you’ll get the occasional train passing. I’ve witnessed some unfortunate activity here in the past but nothing too extreme to deter me from returning. I know this is a usual spot for the local @noexcusemoms workouts (which I’ve never attended but if that’s your thing, go you! )
Do you like going out in the rain? The kids don’t care. It’s me who always says no but something about going out in the rain is really refreshing, renewing and rejuvenating.
