J. A. Lewis Park — Hayward
Go for the park and stay for the view cus gosh its breathtaking!
A park with a view! If you can, be sure to visit this one on a perfectly clear day! You’ll get to see panoramic views of the bay, the city, and the Bay Bridge. This park has a huge grassy area, some picnic benches with bbq, a trellis sitting area, an unlocked bathroom (with soap), and a nice sidewalk loop that is about 1/5 mile long.
The playground has two structures, a sandbox, and two sting sets (one just buckets and the other just standard swings).
The taller structure has two slides (a spiral and a straight), steps, an arched ladder, and some fun activities including a “telescope”, a steering wheel and gear shifter, a tic tac toe board, and some fun dome bells. To access the spiral slide there is a step ladder so early steppers might need some help getting up.
The smaller structure has two slides (a sidewinder and a straight), stairs, a step ladder, and a “rock cliff” ladder. There’s also a marble maze, steering wheel, and planets puzzle. If you have a young dinosaur enthusiast don’t forget to look underneath the rock cliff.
Street parking was easy (there is a parking lot but only has handicap spots). There were a handful of walkers doing the loop. I was surprised to see ice on the slide so be sure to bring your towel if it’s colder and wet out. If you’re lucky you might get to see/hear a fire engine from the adjacent fire department
