Mervin Morris Park — San Lorenzo

Colorful playground, tennis courts, skatepark, and grassy area all found at Mervin Morris Park.

This park is great! It’s hardly ever busy! I really like that I can see the entire play structure from the swing set because sister has so been loving the swings these days.

The structure has some fun elements including the neat tunnel bridge up to the curvy tube slide. The slide can be intimidating at first and I’ll admit I had to push brother down a little to make him try it (I also went with him prior to the push a few times). When you look in from the top you can’t see daylight because of how the tube is curved but after the first turn, sunshine pops in to view and you’re on your way to the ground. He loves it now and even tried face first, backwards, and spinning while sliding. I’m happy to see his confidence boom! There’s a second smaller slide but you can only get to it via ladder. The structure has other ladders that lead to the upper level but you can also use stairs for access. There are monkey bars, some hanging bulbs that spin and a gymnastics bar.

The park has tennis courts, a couple of picnic areas with bbq, a skate park, and open bathrooms. There is a small parking lot.

When school is in person this is a hangout spot for high schoolers after 3:10. During school hours it is just filled with dog walkers and if you’re lucky you’ll get to see some women doing traditional Chinese fan dancing.

Make it a double adventure and visit the Hayward Shoreline (end of Grant) just down the road!
