Russian River RV Campground — Cloverdale
Camping, a river, and a playground all in one spot. Can you really ask for more?
We took a day trip up to Cloverdale to visit our family who are full-time RVers making their way south and boy was it a day of fun! Playing outside with cousins is the best.
Although the campground caters to RVs, there are also cabins and tent sites. The campground has a general store as well.
Just like the name says, the campground sits right along the Russian River (it’s literally a stone's throw from the tent sites). From the RV and cabins, there is a footpath that connects to the river. With many beaches along the river's edge, it is easy to find your perfect spot for the day. Whether you prefer shallow or a good swimming pool, you’ll find it in just this little patch of the 110 mile river. While we hung in the shallow section, the kids made a little pool home for their collected tadpoles (Lilly frogs as my kids called them) and the couple crawdads hanging around. They tried to go for some of the tiny fish swimming around but those little guys were way too fast. While I stayed back with the kids, the two brothers went off fishing and what felt like an hour and a half later, came back saying “there’s a great swimming hole just a 5 min walk that way!” …. Ummm then why you gone so long??
Anyways we packed up and checked the swimming hole out which was perfectly equipped with a giant jumping-off rock.
It was very sunny. Almost impossible to find shade. We huddled in the shade of the tall grass for a little and even used the towels as “umbrellas”. These two sections of the river are accessible via the campground. There is a beach just outside the campground that has public access.
On our way back we visited the playground which has a bathroom right by. The structure has three slides, a crawl through tunnel, ladders, steps, an inclined climbing wall, and a bench underneath. The flooring was made of recycled tire bits. Nearby is a half basketball court and a few fire pits.
It wasn’t too full when we got there Monday but our family said by Thursday it was packed!
